Aerogarden FAQs
How does the AeroGarden work?
The Aerogarden uses a pump to regulate water levels while providing the required light through an LED system. So instead of soil, plants grow suspended above the water, utilizing nutrients from the air and dissolved fertilizer to thrive.
What can you grow in an AeroGarden?
Just about anything that grows above the ground can be planted in an AeroGarden. Some seeds will be more successful than others.
Can I run AeroGarden without water?
The newly redesigned AeroGarden Sprout released last year must have water in the bowl (or reservoir) to work. The pump will stop working, and the LED light will turn OFF if the bowl runs out of water.
How long do AeroGarden LEDs last?
Everything lasts about six months. The manufacturer states that you will get the best growth from your plants if you replace the lights after six months. I know many people that use them longer, but you might see slow growth or leggy plants.
What happens if AeroGarden runs out of water?
Once there is no water left, the pump will probably burn out. This may be fine and probably won’t cause a fire, but it will most likely need replacing.
How often do you replace AeroGarden pods?
All seed pods are backed with a 100% germination guarantee and will replace any pod that fails to sprout after 21 days.
How often should I clean my AeroGarden?
It would help if you cleaned it every time you plant new seedlings or after Harvest. Also, you should regularly wipe the external parts even before Harvest. Most people do their AeroGarden rinse and refill every Harvest or replanting.
Is AeroGarden safe to eat?
Yes, Aerogardens are safe to use in general. They are a safer option compared to many other indoor garden systems. And as for the plants grown in them are very safe to eat, especially as they are grown with no dirt, little to no chemicals, and no bugs hovering around them.
Is it worth it to buy an AeroGarden?
- The Aerogarden is convenient, and most users love the system’s simplicity. The system’s cleaning and maintenance are only occasional inconveniences, while the plant yield is a daily benefit. It’s 100% worth the minimal amount of work.
- The unit isn’t cheap, but the price can be justified because you grow things you would’ve bought otherwise.
- Many gardeners find it difficult to provide adequate growing conditions inside their homes. Low light and inconsistent moisture can lead to poor seed germination and weak, leggy plants.
- AeroGarden seed starting systems solve these problems and others by providing the right amount of light, moisture, and nutrients that seedlings need to grow fast, strong and healthy.
- A self-contained AeroGarden seed starting system improves seed starting in several ways by providing everything that young plants need from source to transplant.
- After the initial setup, it needs virtually no attention until it’s time to transplant. Just check weekly for plant maturity.
- The system provides highly consistent growing conditions for efficient space, time, and materials such as seeds, water, and plant food.
How to start seeds indoors in your Aerogarden Harvest?
- Remove the base growing deck and pump nozzle. Store them away for later use. Insert the seed starting deck into the Harvest, along with the sponges.
- Fill the water reservoir to the fill line and half the amount of plant food listed on the plant food bottle. Let the sponges soak for 24 hours.
- Sow one or two seeds in each grow sponge and place them in the seed starting tray.
- Seeds germinate in one to three days and transplant within three weeks.
Does AeroGarden attract insects?
Your Aerogarden may become infested with indoor garden pests, much like any other indoor plant. However, you’re growing things to eat here, so chemicals are a definite no; even if you use them outdoors, you don’t want to use them in your home.
What to know about the Aerogarden models?
- There are a few different options when shopping for your Aerogarden. You will see names like Aerogarden Harvest Elite, Basic, or Tuscan.
- These mostly refer to the color or style, so don’t confuse you. What it comes down to, the true differences between the models are esthetic and size.
- Keep in mind that each of these comes with an adjustable arm that allows you to change up the height as needed. So the height listed represents the arm extended to its highest point.
- The “grow height” is approximately when you can expect your plants to reach their peak.
